Rajeev Chandrasekhar: Bengaluru’s Activist Member of Parliament
Re-elected to the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka in April 2012,after being unanimously supported by all political parties, Rajeev Chandrasekhar is an active Independent Member of Parliament from Karnataka.
Having been a passionate advocate for and championing the cause of a better Bengaluru through Governance reforms, institution building and citizen involvement , Rajeev is actively involved in an effort to rebuild Bengaluru into a city that its hard working citizens truly deserve, providing them with basic city services and ensuring they have a say in the development of their city.
A strong believer that Politics is National Service and that politicians must recognize this duty and opportunity to serve, Rajeev has been actively involved in backing citizens’ fight against vested interest and corruption in the city through a number of high-impact Public Interest Litigations. These include a PIL on land grab in the city, PIL to ensure accountability of municipal agencies and officials for their negligence that results in loss of life and limb, PIL on the Akrama Sakrama Scheme among others.
A doer who believes in strong action instead of platitudes, Rajeev has been leading initiatives for a Cleaner and Greener Bengaluru and using MPLADs for supporting public and social infrastructure projects including building of BBMP schools, water facilities in slums, toilets in BBMP schools among others.
Committed towards the betterment of Bengaluru, Rajeev founded the Namma Bengaluru Foundation (NBF), an independent non-for-profit organization , in 2009. NBF envisions enthusing every Bengalurean as a “champion of change” for Bengaluru city and plays a facilitative role by providing a common platform for ordinary citizens to raise their voice and take action against various issues that affects the city of Bengaluru and its residents.
